Could Auburn still lose on the road?

The Auburn Tigers have struggled on the road and have a tough trip to Tennessee, putting them among college basketball’s top upset picks of the week.

The college basketball regular season is coming to an end and we are less than three weeks away from Sunday Selection. A lot is at stake in every game, especially if you end up in the bubble and need a marquee victory to impress the selection committee.

That puts the favorites in danger of getting upset on the stretch, a fate Illinois and Auburn (among others) suffered last week. Let’s take a look at five teams that could find themselves on high alert over the next seven days as we examine the top college basketball upset picks of Week 16.

Note: All matches listed below were on the schedule at the time of publication. COVID-19 issues may result in postponements or cancellations on short notice.

Gonzaga No. 1 in San Francisco – Thursday

The Bulldogs won the WCC regular season title over the weekend but still have two tough games on the road against bubble teams to navigate ahead of the conference tournament. Thursday’s trip to San Francisco is hugely meaningful for the Dons, who find themselves flirting with the cut line and know a win over Gonzaga could get them into March Madness.

No. 3 Auburn at No. 17 Tennessee – Saturday

The road hasn’t been kind to the Tigers, who have been dogged by road losses to Arkansas and Florida in each of the past two weeks. Saturday’s trip to Knoxville is extremely dangerous for Auburn as Tennessee is a top-three team in the SEC and earned a double-digit home win over Kentucky last week.

Texas Tech No. 9 at TCU – Saturday

No road game in the Big 12 is easy, and Texas Tech could be in trouble against TCU on Saturday night. The Horned Frogs have solid wins on their resume, but know that a win over Texas Tech here would make their lives easier heading into the Big 12 tournament.

No. 16 USC at Oregon – Saturday

Andy Enfield has already been nervous about the Ducks since Oregon picked up a win at USC earlier this season. This game is even scarier for the Trojans since Oregon is firmly on the bubble and able to play elite basketball any night which could create major issues since the Ducks need this game much more. than USC.

No. 15 Illinois at Michigan – Sunday

The Juwan Howard situation is a potential distraction for Michigan, but it could also serve to galvanize a Wolverines team that is pushing toward the cut line after underperforming for the better part of two months. This makes Sunday’s game in Ann Arbor extremely dangerous for Illinois since Michigan has a big man capable of slowing down Kofi Cockburn in Hunter Dickinson and still possesses all the talent that made this team a hot pick in the Final Four when the pre-season.
