Power 10: Check out the best women’s basketball teams for the week ending February 5

the AL.com Power 10 ranks the best women’s basketball teams in the state, regardless of class.

Postseason play begins with regional tournaments on Monday, and Power 10 teams prepare with a slate of games from the past week.

The top two teams from each region advance to sub-regional play, then to regionals, and finally to the state championships.

Two Power 10 teams finished the regular season undefeated and are both defending state champions.

10. PRATTVILLE CHRISTIAN (30-0)

Recording since last survey: 3-0

Previous ranking: ten

The lean: Prattville Christian, top-ranked in Class 3A, beat Wetumpka 65-32, Montevallo 75-35 and St. James, sixth in Class 4A, 68-63.

9. MORTIMER JORDAN (23-5)

Recording since last survey: 2-1

Previous ranking: 9

The lean: Second-ranked Class 6A Mortimer Jordan beat second-ranked Class 1A Marion County 59-40 and Pell City 60-27 before falling to No. 5 Power 10 Hewitt-Trussville 51-38.

8. DESHLER (27-1)

Recording since last survey: 1-0

Previous ranking: 7

The lean: Deshler, the top ranked in Class 4A, defeated Mars Hill Bible 78-45. The only loss this season came to Power 10 #7 Sparkman on Dec. 28.

The lean: Sparkman, ranked sixth in Class 7A, beat Huntsville 70-33 and Buckhorn 93-18.

6. BOB JONES (24-3)

Recording since last survey: 2-0

Previous ranking: 5

The lean: The fifth-seeded Class 7A Patriots beat Athens 49-33 and East Limestone 60-32.

The lean: Hoover, the top-ranked Class 7A, prepared for the playoffs with a 61-18 win over sister school Spain Park.

Recording since last survey: 1-0

Previous ranking: 1

The lean: Class 6A top-ranked Hazel Green defeated Class 5A top-ranked Lee-Huntsville 66-34 to finish the regular season undefeated. The Trojans have run their unbeaten streak to 52 games over the past two seasons. The last defeat against an incumbent came at Ramsay more than two years ago.
