Take a stand, basketball players invite Minister Dare – Blueprint Newspapers Limited
Nigerian basketball players have urged the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, to address the lingering leadership crisis that is rocking the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF).
Players who stormed the sports minister’s office on Tuesday to express their displeasure, have raised eyebrows at the Nigerian games master’s posture in handling the leadership impasse that is rocking the federation.
Speaking to reporters, a former NBA player and board member under the then-Engineer. The board led by Musa Kida, Mr. Ejike Ugboaja, urged the Minister of Youth and Sports to be bold and approach the issue without feelings.
“Both elections ended two weeks ago, and we don’t know the minister’s position. I served under the board of Musa Kida and played the game for over 12 years. We had never encountered this type of problem before.
“Except the minister has been compromised, I think today we should have our president, not the ministry running the show. We want the minister to come out and tell us what’s going on, we want him to address us, we want the minister as the father of the game to tell us his position.
“Without the players, there is no basketball,” Ugboaja said.
In his reaction, the current players’ representative on the NBBF board, Mr Stanely Gumut, said both domestic and foreign basketball players threw their weight behind Mr Igoche Mark, insisting the players swore not to repeat the mistake made four years ago. There are.
He said: “We don’t want to repeat the mistake we made four years ago, the time wasted is what we don’t want to repeat. Our whole fight is about the well-being of the players. The truth is that we players supported Mr. Igoche Mark.
“Unfortunately, the ministry doesn’t say anything about it. We players are the pioneers of this game and we don’t want to play basketball for free anymore. The minister is supposed to come out and talk to us as a father, but the man was hesitant to speak to us and his action became disturbing to us.
Nigerian basketball players have vowed to resist any attempt to impose Engr. Musa Kida as President of NBBF.
They described the former NBBF Board of Directors under Kida as a sham and a global disgrace to the basketball administration.
