Clorox: NBA Introduces New Rising Star Format Clorox 2022

NEW YORK, January 25, 2022 – The NBA today announced a new format for the 2022 Clorox Rising Stars, which will be played on Friday, February 18 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland as part of NBA All-Star 2022. TNT will broadcast the annual showcase of the best young talent at 9 p.m. ET.

Clorox Rising Stars will feature four teams of seven players competing in a three-game mini-tournament. Each game will be played with a final target score, which means a game will end with a successful field goal or free throw instead of an elapsed time.

The 28-player Clorox Rising Stars roster will consist of 12 freshman NBA players, 12 sophomore NBA players and four elite young players from the NBA G League Ignite, a one-of-a-kind team dedicated to developing the best hopes. in preparation for the NBA Draft.

The 24 combined first- and second-year NBA players for Rising Stars will be selected by NBA assistant coaches, with each of the league’s 30 teams submitting one ballot per coaching staff. The four NBA G League Ignite players will be selected by the NBA G League Head Coaches.

NBA legends who have been named in the league’s 75and The anniversary team and assistant coaches from the 2022 NBA All-Star Game coaching staff will make up the combined Clorox Rising Stars coaching staff. Coaches will select their teams during the Rising Star Draft. Each team will select seven players, including one NBA G League Ignite player. More details on the coaches and the draft will be announced at a later date.


In the mini-tournament, Team A will face Team B in the first semi-final (game 1) and Team C will face Team D in the second semi-final (game 2). The winner of Game 1 will meet the winner of Game 2 in the final (Game 3).

The competition will have a “75” run, in honor of the NBA record 75and Anniversary season. The semi-final matches will be played with a final target score of 50. The final match will be played with a final target score of 25, for a total of 75 points in the semi-final and final.

Additionally, a timed shooting competition called the Clorox Clutch Challenge will take place between games 2 and 3 of Clorox Rising Stars. A total of eight NBA and NBA G League Ignite players will be divided into four teams of two and compete to take shots from five locations on the court linked to iconic shots made during the NBA playoffs .

Each team will compete with a shared ball and their players must alternate shots so that no player shoots twice in a row. Team 1 has 1 minute and 30 seconds (1:30 countdown) to take a shot from each of the five locations in any order. Team 1’s time is then the scorer for Team 2. If Team 1’s time is 1:15, then Team 2 will have a 1:15 countdown to end the competition. Each team that sets a new standard sets the clock for the next team competing, and the fastest finisher will win the Clorox Clutch Challenge.
