India v New Zealand kick off Fiba World Cup qualifiers

MANILA finally opens its doors for the Fiba World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers as fans take to the stands at the Smart Araneta Coliseum for the first game on Thursday.

Gilas Pilipinas fans will have to wait a bit longer though.

The Philippines’ first mission was pushed back to Friday when they meet India at 6 p.m. after their initial duel against Korea was scrapped following the latter’s withdrawal from the event.

India v New Zealand preview

India and New Zealand will now raise the curtain for Group A of the qualifiers as they seek to earn first blood in the group.

Tipping will take place at 3 p.m.

India will field former NBA G League Ignite center Princepal Singh, while New Zealand will field former La Salle center Taane Samuel and New Zealand NBL MVP Dion Prewster from last season, both of Wellington Saints .

Apart from the Group A teams, other nations will also continue their campaigns in the Asian qualifiers in their home and away format.

Group C leaders Lebanon (2-0) travel to Jordan (1-1) in Amman, while Saudi Arabia (1-1) host Indonesia (0-2) in Jeddah.

Undefeated Group D sides Iran (2-0) and Kazakhstan (2-0) will also face off in Tehran, while winless sides Bahrain (0-2) and Syria (0-2) will dispute their first victories in Manama.
