Meet the 2022 SBLive All-State Boys Basketball Teams in California

With the 2022 California high school basketball season on the books, it’s time to hand out some awards.

After covering dozens of games and talking to dozens of coaches across the state this season, here are SBLive’s California Boys Basketball All-State Teams. The statewide teams were compiled by SBLive reporter Connor Morrissette and include Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, an All-Sophomore Team and Freshman of the Year.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Josh Giles, Corona centenarian

Giles’ Corona Centennial team played at an exceptionally high level, culminating in a 59-50 state championship win over Modesto Christian this season. And he did it after losing one of the best players in the team last year.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

G Donovan Dent – Corona Centennial – Senior

Dent led Corona Centennial to Southern Section and Open Division state titles in his senior year. He averaged 16.4 points, 6.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 53% from the field.

ALL-STATE FIRST TEAM

G: Jared McCain – Corona Centennial – Junior

McCain was Corona Centennial’s leading scorer averaging 16.8 points per game for the Huskies, the Southern Section and State Open Division champions. Last week, McCain made a commitment to Duke.

G: Jamari Phillips – Modesto Christian – Second Year

Phillips was the best player on the best team in Northern California this season. The second scored 20 points in Modesto Christian’s 59-50 loss to Corona Centennial in the CIF State Open Division Championship game. He received scholarship offers from Cal, Illinois and Kansas.

G: Aidan Mahaney – Campolindo – Senior

Mahaney is a signer of St. Mary’s. The senior averaged a team-high 17.2 points per game and 3.9 assists per game for the North Coast Section Open Division champion Cougars.

G/F: Amari Bailey – Sierra Canyon – Senior

Bailey is a signatory from UCLA. He averaged 18.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 15 games with Sierra Canyon this season.

C: Devin Williams – Corona Centennial – Junior

Williams averaged 11.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Huskies, the Southern Section and State Open Division champions. He shot an impressive 44% from 3-point range in his freshman year. Williams received scholarship offers from Cal and Texas Tech. He is one of the most exciting college candidates in Southern California.

SECOND TEAM ALL-STATE

G: Kalib LaCount – King/Drew – Senior

LaCount has averaged 33.5 points per game for the Golden Eagles this season. He led King/Drew to the school’s first-ever Open Division championship appearance, a 76-64 loss to Fairfax. LaCount also averaged 6.5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4.2 steals per game.

G: Dusty Stromer – Notre Dame – Junior

Stromer was named Mission League Player of the Year this season after leading Notre Dame to a share of the Mission League Championship. He has narrowed his list of universities to four and will choose between Arizona, Gonzaga, UCLA and Houston.

G: King-Njhsanni Wilhite – Archbishop Riordan – Junior

Wilhite scored 612 points for Archbishop Riordan this season and he led the Crusaders to the Central Coast Section Open Division Championship. In the state playoffs, Wilhite scored 35 points in a 57-50 win over De Le Salle.

F: Brady Dunlap – Harvard-Westlake – Junior

Dunlap averaged 17 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game for a Harvard-Westlake team that played in the school’s first-ever Open Division Southern Division championship game this season. In the Wolverines’ 63-60 South Section playoff win over Sierra Canyon, Dunlap scored Harvard-Westlake’s first 10 points in the fourth quarter and finished with 17 overall. He was also named All-Mission League first team manager this year.

F: Jojo Hunter – San Joaquin Memorial – Senior

Hunter has averaged 23.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game this year. He scored over 2,000 points during his career at the San Joaquin Memorial.

ALL-STATE THIRD TEAM

G: Connor Amundsen – Clovis North – Year Two

Amundsen led Clovis North to the CIF State Division 1 Championship game this season with big game after big game. He scored 21, 15, 27, 21 and 25 points in the Broncos’ five playoff games to earn all-state honors.

G: Isaac Martinez – Clovis West – Junior

Martinez was named co-MVP of the Tri-Rivers League along with teammate Tyus Parrish-Tillman this season. In addition to co-league MVP honors, Martinez was also named MVP of the Tarkanian Classic and the Nike Invitational in 2021-22. The junior led Clovis-West to the Central Division Open Division title this season. In the championship game, Martinez scored 20 points to help erase a 20-point deficit and give the Eagles a 72-63 overtime win over St. Joseph.

G: Cam Lancer – Harvard-Westlake – Senior

Thrower averaged 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game for Harvard-Westlake this season. In the Wolverines’ 63-60 Open Section South Section playoff victory over Sierra Canyon, Thrower scored a team-high 18 points. He was also named All-Mission League first team manager this year.

F: Jurion Dixon – St. Augustine – Junior

Dixon averaged 22.5 points per game for the San Diego Division Open Division champion Saints this season.

F: Aaron McBride – Corona Centennial – Junior

McBride is one of the state’s most underrated basketball players. The junior averaged 13 points and eight rebounds per game for the Huskies, the Southern Section and CIF State Open Division champions.

ALL-SOPHOMORE TEAM

G: Isaiah Elohim – Sierra Canyon

It’s been a frustrating season for Sierra Canyon, but second Isaiah Elohim was definitely a bright spot for the Trailblazers. He scored 18 points in Sierra Canyon’s 83-59 loss to Corona Centennial in the CIF State Open Division regional championship. Overall, he averaged 10.2 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game for Sierra Canyon.

G: Vyctorius Miller – Lutheran Crean

Miller led Crean Lutheran to the South Section Open Division playoffs with an average of 20 points, five rebounds and four assists per game. Like Elohim, Miller is one of the top recruits nationally in the Class of 2024. He has received scholarship offers from UCLA, USC and Kansas, among others.

F: Carter Bryant – Valley of the Fountain

Bryant was named the All-Wave League first team as a sophomore. He received scholarship offers from USC and Long Beach State.

F: James Evans – West Ranch

Evans is a very talented goalscorer. He had 27 points in a loss to Riverside Poly this season and hit the game-winner against Fairmont Prep.

F: Noah Williams – Christian Village

Williams helped Heritage Christian to a 78-69 win over Long Beach Poly in the Division 2AA Southern Section Championship. He scored 14 points in the win.

FIRST YEAR OF THE YEAR

Tunde Yessoufou – St. Joseph Santa Maria attacking

Yessoufou averaged 26.4 points and 12.3 rebounds per game for Saint-Joseph this season. He was named Central Coast – Mountain League MVP. In St. Joseph’s 63-55 playoff loss to Harvard-Westlake, Yessoufou scored 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

California’s Class of 2025 is brimming with talent, but Yessoufou’s freshman year stood above the rest.
