Basketball legend Pau Gasol has been introduced as an ambassador for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022, which kicks off on September 22 in Sydney, Australia.
Spanish basketball legend Pau Gasol, who has proudly represented his country throughout his career, has been named the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 Ambassador.
MVP of the 2006 FIBA World Cup and two-time NBA champion, Gasol has long been a strong advocate for providing opportunities for women in sport and in life.
Gasol is close friends with Kobe Bryant, with whom he played for the Los Angeles Lakers and won two NBA titles together. Bryant was passionate about helping the women’s game grow, as was Gasol.
The legendary Spanish player says female coaches should have the same opportunities as men to apply for head coaching positions in men’s professional teams.
“I’m a huge fan. The women’s game is booming and I can’t wait to be in Sydney to see the best teams in the world compete for the highest honor in international basketball,” said Gasol.
The level of skill, intensity, physique and passion that these athletes bring to the field is incredible,” added Gasol.
“Playing for your country on the biggest stage is the greatest pride,” Gasol continued.
“Basketball is about team play. It’s about moving the ball, sharing it, finding a free teammate and creating offensive flow. It’s a selfless game,” Gasol concluded. .
In the competition, we will see 12 teams compete for the chance to win the gold medals.
The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 will take place in Sydney, Australia from September 22 to October 1.
