Recent history

Choosing all the chalk for your Final Four can actually be a good strategy. At least one team that is a seed 1 almost always reaches the national semi-final. Only once in the past 10 tournaments has a #1 seed NOT made it to the Final Four (2011), and in 2008 all four #1 seeds made it to the penultimate round .

That said, more and more Cinderellas have raced to the final weekend in recent years. Last year, the 11th seed UCLA crashed the party.

Another 11-seeded Loyola-Chicago made it to the Final 4 in 2018. And 10-seeded Syracuse did in 2016. Here’s a look at the last 10 NCAA men’s basketball tournaments, with the teams that made the Final Four each year. with their sowing.
